As a systemic herbicide, it only affects the root material it actually contacts and only travels a very short distance up the root. Once this section is contacted, it begins to die, rot and drop off into the pipe work and flow downstream.
As roots typically enter at the sides and top of the pipework, a foam is ideal to expand and carry the active ingredients to all its surfaces.
