how it works
Plumbing & Pipeline Solutions can employ a smoke testing procedure where the smoke is generated by a fog machine and introduced down the pipe by a motorised blower unit.
Next, is the natural venting of the system that draws this smoke to various openings. The smoke will then penetrate up through the ground if a shallow pipe is broken etc.
Basically, the sign of smoke emitting from a down pipe or stormwater sump is clear evidence of an illegal connection.

SO, WHAT SMOKE DO WE USE?
The smoke used is a non-residual thermal fog with virtually no carbon monoxide and can safely be used for testing sewer and stormwater drains. Again, this smoke has no toxic components so the complete process is safe.
Dye testing is an alternative to the latter test for detecting illegal stormwater entry to sewerage effluent schemes.
Our smoke testing technicians use a soluble dye to track, locate and confirm illegal connections and infiltration points.
